Thomas Bexon & Jake Bowrey back at the Shapers Club House in Marennes

From the July 25, the Shapers Club House will be pleased to welcome again Thomas Bexon and Jake Bowrey, aka Cutlap, for a residence two weeks in our workshop in Marennes.

A highly anticipated newcomer, both by longboard enthusiasts and those who have been following the world of Thomas Surfboards. During this period, Thomas and Jake will work directly on-site, at the heart of the workshop, to bring to life a limited series of boards made in France, in the spirit and with the demanding standards that have made their label famous.

The guest shaper, a meeting around manufacturing

At Shapers Club, the concept of Guest Shaper is at the center of our workshop vision.

The idea is simple: invite recognized shapers to come work directly in Marennes, at our place, with our team, our tools, and our expertise. It's not just a remote collaboration or a manufacturing license. It's a true residency, a moment of sharing, exchange, and creation around the surfboard.

For a few days or a few weeks, the shaper is present in the workshop. They can chat with clients, refine orders, discuss designs, volumes, rails, finishes, or even decorations. Each board then becomes more personal, more precise, and more connected to its future surfer.

This is the approach we champion at the Shapers Club House: creating a bridge between big names in international shaping and local, artisanal manufacturing, right here in Marennes.

Thomas Bexon, a major figure in contemporary longboarding

Australian shaper based in Noosa, Thomas Bexon is one of the must-know names on the current longboard scene. His work is recognizable by its balance between classic heritage and a modern approach to riding.

His boards are elegant, precise, and lively. They speak as much to lovers of traditional noseriding as to surfers looking for more versatile boards, capable of offering control, speed, and flow in varied conditions.

But reducing Thomas to longboarding would be too simple. His universe also spans midlengths, eggs, fish, and shortboards, with the same pursuit always present: finding the right line, the right volume, the right feel underfoot.

Over the years, his models have become benchmarks for many surfers, from Keeper at Scoop Tail Noseriderfrom Malibu at Bill Pin, including its shorter and more alternative boards.

Jake Bowrey, aka Cutlap, the art of glass and finishing

Alongside Thomas, we find Jake Bowrey, also known as Cutlap.

Jake plays an essential role in the visual and handcrafted identity of Thomas Surfboards. His glassing work, his tinted resins, his cut laps, his polishes, and his finishes fully contribute to the character of the boards.

Where Thomas draws the lines and brings the shape to life, Jake brings the depth, color, and that precision in the details that transforms a board into a true workshop piece.

The arrival of Thomas and Jake together is therefore particularly important. It allows us to rediscover this rare complementarity between shaping and glassing, between functionality and aesthetics, between performance and object.

Two-week residency in Marennes

Thomas Bexon and Jake Bowrey will be at the Shapers Club House from July 25, for a period of two weeks.

During this period, a limited number of boards can be ordered and manufactured in the workshop. Each project will be carefully studied: choice of model, dimensions, surfer's level, wave type, desired surfing style, decoration, and finishes.

This residency is an opportunity to order a Thomas Surfboards board with direct support, in an artisanal setting, by taking advantage of the presence of Thomas and Jake on-site.
